The Perfect NY Strip Steak (Grilled Medium-Rare)

There’s nothing quite like the sizzle of a NY Strip hitting the grill. Rich, juicy, and packed with flavor, it’s the centerpiece of any great cookout—and with the Stars & Stripes Grill Master Box, you’re getting premium cuts that deserve to be grilled right.

Here’s how to turn that beautiful steak into a mouthwatering masterpiece—crispy on the outside, tender and pink on the inside.

Ingredients (per steak):

  • 1 NY Strip Steak (about 10–12 oz)

  • 1 teaspoon olive oil

  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt

  • ½ teaspoon freshly cracked black pepper

  • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder

  • Optional: 1 sprig fresh rosemary or 1 tsp compound butter (for finishing)

Prep Steps:

  1. Let it breathe. Remove the steak from the fridge and let it come to room temperature—about 30 minutes before grilling. This ensures even cooking.

  2. Pat it dry. Use paper towels to dry the surface of the steak. This helps you get that perfect crust.

Season Like a Pro:

Drizzle your steak with olive oil and rub it evenly across both sides. Then apply:

  • 1 tsp kosher salt

  • ½ tsp cracked black pepper

  • ¼ tsp garlic powder

Massage the seasoning in gently, pressing it into the meat without overhandling.

Grill It:

  1. Preheat your grill to high heat (450–500°F). You want it hot enough to sear instantly.

  2. Place the steak directly over the flame and grill for 4–5 minutes per side for a classic medium-rare. Try not to move it around too much—one clean flip is all it needs.

  3. Optional: During the last minute, add a sprig of rosemary or a pat of compound butter on top for an extra burst of flavor and aroma.

Don’t Skip the Rest:

Once grilled, let the steak rest on a cutting board for 5–10 minutes. This step locks in the juices and keeps it tender.

Serve & Slice:

Slice against the grain for ultimate tenderness. Pair with grilled corn, veggie skewers, or your favorite summer sides, and you’ve got a 4th of July feast worthy of fireworks.
